Letter from Mrs. West's Solicitor confirming number of pages in Mrs. West's shorthand books and below: how they came to be missing and why.

1.    Book 667 contained the evidence given by Police Sgt. Starns and S/Constable Jean Watson
and as the front covers discloses and, as the Solicitor's letter (above) shows the book
contained only 156 pages upon examination in the offices of her Solicitor.

2.    Mrs. West's affidavit swears that the evidence of the witnesses at my trial on the day that she
took down their evidence is written on pages 100 to 155 in book 667 and 1 to 18 in book 668. The important question arises: what was written on pages 156, 157, 158 and 159 of book 667. The notes are required to be a continuous record of the proceedings. The reason that she has not transcribed those pages is probably because they contain/ed the false notes from dictation by Judge Simpson that she later transcribed.

3.    Pages 158 and 159 are missing from the book 667 = 2 sheets.

4.    There are shorthand notes on pages 156, 157, 158 and 159, but according to Mrs. West's affidavit, they can not be notes of the witnesses evidence and therefore they are not transcribed by her in the transcripts that she provided.

5.    It is reasonable to suppose that the only reason that Mrs. West failed to transcribe those the notes on the 4 pages are that they do/did contain the false notes dictated by Judge Simpson and used later to alter the evidence given by the witnesses.

Come clean Mrs. West: transcribe the copy pages 156 and 157 that are retained by your Solicitor and shown to you marked "SMW1" at the time of making your affidavit. I accept that the pages 158 and 159 have  been destroyed and that therefore copies do not exist.
